We were blessed to get the same products for review. Since I am introducing Clara-Bear to a new arts and crafts screen in her Dynavox, we brought our Color Wonder products to an Assistive Technology Speech Therapy session with Kim. Our sessions with Kim are community-based, so we met in a public library. Since this is what happened the last time we played with fingerpaints, you can understand how this therapy session could not have happened without the magic of Crayola Color Wonder!
We haven't used Color Wonder products in about two years. Back then, the little delay between using the marker and seeing the colors was more than Clara-Bear and even Alan could handle. They didn't have a good enough grasp of cause and effect to wait it out. It was fun to see how they have both progressed and are ready for the mess free magic of Color Wonder. First Clara-Bear and Kim worked with the Story Stampers:
Clara-Bear used her Dynavox to tell Kim what colors she wanted Kim to fingerpaint onto the Color Wonder paper. This was fine with me, since I would be the one cleaning gel paint off the Dynavox's touch screen. At least the paints would be clear on her screen!
Since the Color Wonder Fingerpaints are a clear gel, it's hard to tell which color is which when a lid is open. This seemed to confuse Clara-Bear. I'm conflicted here. Part of me wants to buy little dot stickers in matching colors and add them to the tray so Clara-Bear will know the color choices if the lids are up. Another part wants her to have the fine motor challenge of closing and opening the lids over and over. It would be a great opportunity to work on her bilateral coordination. We'll try the Fingerpaints a couple more times before I decide if she needs the accommodation or if the frustration will be motivating.
