Update: Good Guide has issued a correction to their claims that Mr. Squiggles has dangerous chemical levels. Hopefully, this will reassure some parents who have already purchased the toy, and also won't stress out parents who have to start hunting for the toys again. Original Post:
This mornings Zhu Zhu Pets' feature on Good Morning America has started the Internet gossip wheels turning. GoodGuide, a consumer advocacy group, has stated that one of the Zhu Zhu Pets (Mr. Squiggles) has higher than acceptable levels of the harmful chemicals antimony and tin. So far, Mr. Squiggles is the only Zhu Zhu whose safety is being questioned. Cepia LLC, manufacturer of Zhu Zhu Pets, claims that all U.S. safety standards have been met. According to the GMA website, "(Cepia LLC) said it was contacting GoodGuide to share its testing data and determine how the report was founded." At the time of this posting, Mr. Squiggles, his furry friends, and their accessories have not been recalled. Hopefully the popularity of this toy and the upcoming Holiday will motivate quick resolution of this controversy. I also hope that if these toys are in fact safe, that GoodGuide will help reassure concerned parents. This country doesn't need any more businesses to fail (sorry for the soapbox). If you are monitoring this toy and would like to receive email notifications of official U.S. recalls, see the previous able2able post Directory of Product Recalls and Alerts Lists.
